Ivy League Anarchy!!

Founders of the Minuteman Gang were speaking at Columbia University, when a crowd of students rushed on to stage with banners- causing the event to break up in violent disorder.

At first glance, it seemed it was a little extra zeal on the part of the protesters, but it shortly turned into an ugly mess with the security personnel evacuating the speakers and their entourage. The protesters took over the hall shouting and chanting, and it appears, that was the end of the event.

This is travesty of free speech in a country that holds the right to speak freely as one of their founding values. I don’t agree at all with the message that Mr. Simcox and his cohorts bring, but it would better suit my sense of propriety to hear him out and rebut his points with hard evidence proving that the methods he advocates are excessive and unethical. Like Voltaire said: “I may not agree with what you’re saying, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it”. The mob at Columbia University violated Mr. Gilchrist's rights under the first amendment, even though his views are despicable.

The Minutemen are armed civilians who want the authority to defend US borders against illegal immigrants. But how will an un-trained militia ever carry out duties that professionals have failed at in the past? Who will regulate them? All Law Enforcement organizations have some sort of internal affairs bureau or other controls to stem the rot within. The minutemen lack these controls, and are a posse fresh out of a Spaghetti western. There are also allegations that they draw members from several white supremacist groups.

The fracas at Columbia University did absolutely nothing to further the Liberal Democrat stand on the Minutemen project. To me it looked like one of those raids by politically affiliated thugs breaking up a rally by the opposition- something that happens occasionally here, in India. Would these people dare try this at an NRA convention in Texas?
